Over the past year, Twitch has become a prime place to cultivate wrestling. From the now defunct Wrestle Circus putting their star studded cards on free live stream, to IMPACT Wrestling going live weekly via Twitch for those who do not have access to their television presence (and by those I mean the general public). Though at the heart of the live streaming juggernaut lives its main community: gaming.
Personalities like Dr. DisRespect, Tfue, and others are part of what draws views to the site; with hundreds flocking to their livestreams to watch them play their choice of game. Some may come for their expertise in gameplay while others may enjoy their personalities while they play. One such group has the best of both the gaming and wrestling worlds of Twitch.

Enter newLEGACYinc: a group who primarily streams various wrestling games (although they will stream such games as GTA V and Jackbox from time to time). What started off in 2009 as four people goofing around in WWE Games has since grown to ten, with a few guests in between (most notably Vince Russo, WWE’s Mansoor and indie star Andrew Everett). While they are know for their hilarious streams, they are just as known for their charitable spirit.

Each year, they work in collaboration with Fighting Back; a wrestling benefit show held once a year started in memory of professional wrestler Phrank Morin. The proceeds of this event go to benefit the Canadian Cancer Society. Since 2011, they have raised over $200,000 towards this cause (with this year’s event raising $25,000) and with newLEGACYinc involved, goes way up.
This year’s charity stream marked the return of nL’s bi-annual Rumblethon; a two day marathon of 30 Royal Rumble matches which culminates all Rumble winners being entered into the Royaliest of Rumbles. You truly have to appreciate the work that went into this stream. nL member Duel single handedly recorded 31 Rumble matches ahead of this stream (even taking the liberty of chopping down the excruciating load times of WWF Smackdown’s Rumble match) just to be viewed over the course of two days.
This year, newLEGACYinc goal was double their previous year’s goal of $15,000 (which they smashed with a total of $28,709.42) for a total of $30,000. Having watched live, I knew that they’d reach this goal considering they raised around $1,300 before even saying a single word at the start of the first day. Through two days of laughs, donations, and Rumbles they would finish out at over $34,000 raised, not only setting a yearly record, but also surpassing $100,000 raised across their history of streaming in collaboration with Fighting Back.
I have to say being apart of this community and watching how far they’ve come along is an awesome feeling. And having watched the stream replays of Fighting Back and taking in the amount of donations were given, both big and small. While these streams, and hearing people’s stories related to fighting cancer makes me feel warm, I also cannot wait to see how much further we can push the donations next year.
