FREEDOMS The Gekokujo 2023
Pro Wrestling FREEDOMS hosted yet another memorable event as they returned to Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan and presented The Gekokujo 2023 on March 23rd, 2023. Coming out of the event, we have a few major headlines, starting with Takayuki Ueki making his first appearance in FREEDOMS since May of last year. Ueki announced that he would have his return match for FREEDOMS during the company’s May 3rd return to Korakuen Hall. The matchup and stipulation have yet to be announced.
Of course, the major headline surrounding this event was the final Deathmatch for international Deathmatch star: Drew Parker. Parker, alongside his partner for the night/his mentor, Abdullah Kobayashi, would take on UNCHAIN’s Jun Kasai & Masashi Takeda in a Light Tubes Deathmatch. Kasai and Takeda would ultimately claim victory over Parker and Kobayashi in Parker’s final Deathmatch. This match would mark the end of one of the greatest Deathmatch runs in recent history. With the open world in front of Drew Parker, Top Rope Writing wishes Drew Parker the absolute best in wherever he takes his career next.
While Drew’s final Deathmatch was big news, it’s the events of the Main Event that were just as newsworthy in my personal opinion. Tomoya Hirata would have his shot to face the current reigning King of FREEDOM Champion Violento Jack in a Glass Board Deathmatch. Hirata would go on to defeat Violento Jack to become the new King of FREEDOM Champion. In victory, Hirata would stop Jack’s fourth KFC Title reign on his first defense at the forty-nine day mark. Even bigger than defeating Violento Jack, Hirata would not only win his first Singles Championship in FREEDOMS since entering the company in 2017, but also his first Singles Championship in his career to date. Congratulations to Tomoya Hirata on climbing the ladder and defeating one of the best in the world for the most important Deathmatch Championship in the world.
