Faces of the Deathmatch Scene to Compete in the 2023 Scenic City Invitational
One of the best yearly wrestling tournaments returns once again as on July 14th and 15th, the 2023 Scenic City Invitational will be taking place at TWE Arena in Chattanooga, Tennessee. While SCI is a much more grounded wrestling tournament, faces of the Deathmatch scene like Nick Gage and Matt Tremont have previously competed. Joining the tournament this year is John Wayne Murdoch, Sawyer Wreck, and Southeast Deathmatch Legend: Tank. Tank in particular is surely in for a tough challenge as in the First Round, he will face off against one of the best Technical Wrestlers on the planet in Timothy Thatcher. Tickets for SCI 2023 are available now and you can follow SCI on Twitter for updates.
Matt Tremont’s Opponent Confirmed for H2O’s The Last Generation
H2O Wrestling is set to host The Last Generation; a Deathmatch Tournament featuring the final class of students ever taught under the learning tree of Matt Tremont. It was announced that at The Last Generation, Tremont himself would face off against one of his students in a non-tournament matchup. Now, it has been confirmed that Matt Tremont will be facing off against his student, Austin Luke in that matchup. While he can be seen amongst peers like Dyln McKay and Marcus Mathers, Austin Luke wrestles a much more hard hitting, grounded style of pro wrestling. That being said, Austin is also not at all afraid to get extreme when the time calls. This will surely be the ultimate exam of Austin Luke as a wrestler as he faces his teacher: one of the most decorated and respected wrestlers of the Independent & Deathmatch scenes. The Last Generation will take place on June 24th at the H2O Wrestling Center in Williamstown, New Jersey. Tickets are available now and you can follow H2O on Twitter for updates.

Editorial: Farewell to The Carousel

Over this past weekend, news began to emerge about the future of one of the most beloved venues on the Deathmatch scene. That venue being The Carousel Room in Atlantic City, New Jersey; a venue that is part of the much wider Showboat Casino. Fans and talent alike all gathered around on Twitter to commemorate times had within the venue’s walls. Talents reminiscing about the crowds, the matches, and the growth seen as both professionals and as people. Those fans who attended shows at ringside looking back at all the fun and moments shared with friends as Game Changer Wrestling’s best put on big show after big show.
I unfortunately never had the pleasure of attending a show in The Carousel Room, despite it being on my ever-growing to-do list. However, I still can’t help but feel for the loss of this venue, much like everyone else has. As a home viewer, the colorful interior has become completely synonymous with GCW’s identity; much like Viking Hall was for ECW in its heyday. I got to fall in love with Deathmatch Wrestling through these massive shows at The Carousel Room. I’ll always remember seeing moments like Jun Kasai’s return to America. Or watching the match that would ultimately become Danny Havoc’s last. Or jumping out of my seat when Alex Colon won his third straight Tournament of Survival. I was not physically there for these moments, but these are moments that felt huge to me. And in some part, I ‘d like to think that it was due to that venue. And while The Carousel Room that fans and talent have come to know and love will be going away, the memories that remain with its patrons will live on.
