GCW Announces The Art of War Games 2023; Teams Confirmed for October
Game Changer Wrestling presented another massive Homecoming Weekend for the Atlantic City fateful. And with another big weekend for the Indie powerhouse, a blockbuster matchup was announced for this October. Following the conclusion of Rina Yamashita’s GCW Ultraviolent Championship defense against Violento Jack, a brawl broke out between members of the GCW locker room and Pro Wrestling FREEDOMS away team. It was amid the chaos that the announcement was made: Team GCW would face off against Team FREEDOMS in The Art of War Games 2023. Since this announcement, members for both teams have been officially confirmed and are as follows:
Team GCW: Nick Gage, Rina Yamashita, John Wayne Murdoch & Los Macizos (Ciclope & Miedo Extremo)
Team FREEDOMS: Jun Kasai, Masashi Takeda, Takashi Sasaki, Toru Sugiura & Violento Jack
This big time matchup, and much more will be going down on October 7th and 8th as GCW presents Fight Club Weekend at The Showboat Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Tickets for both nights of action are available now and you can follow GCW on Twitter for updates.
New GCW Tag Team Champions Crowned; Toru Sugiura Becomes a Triple Champion
Before the the big match announcement and all the chaos surrounding it at Homecoming Weekend, new GCW Tag Team Champions were crowned. Representing Pro Wrestling FREEDOMS, the team of Toru Sugiura & Takashi Sasaki have defeated The East West Express (Jordan Oliver & Nick Wayne) to become the new GCW Tag Team Champions. In victory, Sugiura & Sasaki ended The East West Express’ reign of 142 days in their seventh defense of the titles. This victory also makes Toru Sugiura a Triple Champion as he also the current holder of the King of FREEDOM World Championship and one half of the King of FREEDOM World Tag Team Championship with Daisuke Masaoka in FREEDOMS. Unsanctioned Pro Hardcore Championship Defended Overseas for the First Time
In a previous edition of This Week in Death, it was reported that Joel Bateman had won the Unsanctioned Pro Hardcore Championship while here for a brief stint in the United States. Since his return to his native Australia, Joel Bateman has defended his new Championship on his home soil. At Deathmatch Downunder’s If You Don’t Know, Now You Know event, Bateman successfully defended the Unsanctioned Pro Hardcore Championship against Australian Deathmatch legend Mad Dog in a Panes of Glass, Light Tube & Alpha Deathmatch. This title defense marks the first time ever that the Unsanctioned Pro Hardcore Championship has ever been defended outside of the United States.
